Phyllis was born to Walter and Pearl (Althoff) Schubert on September 7, 1925, in Pleasant Valley Township.
She married Lewis Newton on February 18, 1946, in Lincoln, Nebraska. For many years she was employed as a waitress and later worked for Micro Switch for 20 years. She was a member of the Pearl City American Legion Auxiliary. She was a very caring, loving, and giving Mom, who would drop everything to help someone in need. She was always there for her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Phyllis is survived by 3 children, Jeanne (Charles) Jordan, Larry (Bertha) Newton, and Kathleen (Don Lisk) Ascher; 6 grandchildren, Jamie Jordan, Cynthia (Tim) LeFevre, Cherie (Larry) Newton, Christine (Brad) Aude, Cathleen (Chris) Krug, and Tricia (David Craig) Ascher; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Larsen; and a sister-in-law, Carol Zier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis, on October 29, 1968; grandchild, Tammy Lynn Ascher; and brother, Morrall Newton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, at Leamon Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena. Pastor Randall Nicholas will officiate the service. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
