Composer. He was best known for his work in Broadway Theater and in Hollywood motion picture musicals. He collaborated with Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, and Kurt Weill. He also orchestrated Frederick Loewe's music for "Camelot" and "My Fair Lady." His work was so well respected that Sergei Rachmaninoff's widow engaged Bennett to complete an unfinished 2-piano reduction of her late husband's 4th piano concerto. As a composer, he is less well-known, but has over 80 published works to his credit, many of them commissions. He rests with his wife, the former Louise Edgerton Merrill, and daughter Beatrice Jean, in the Merrill Family lot.
