Don was born on June 1, 1944 in Hays, Kansas to Joseph and Barbara (Riedel) Bieker. He attended school in Ellis and Salina and at the age of 18 he joined the United States Army, serving a tour of duty in France.
Don is survived by his wife, Sheryl of Scranton; one son, Jon (Rebecca) Bieker of Gardner; one daughter, Andrea (Tim) Smith of Scranton and four grandchildren: Austin, Tambour, Ian and Tiana. He is also survived by three sisters, Viola Billinger of Hays, Mary Goetz of Salina and Marlaine Gottschalk of Hays as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin Francis and Robert, and three sisters, Eileen Arnhold, Lillian Bieker and JoAnne Guimond.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service with military honors will be held in Ellis, KS at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery on Saturday, May 18, 2013, 11:00 a.m. A traditional German dinner will follow for all family and friends at the VFW, 813 Jefferson, Ellis, per Don's request.
