LINCOLN - Rebecca A. McLaughlin, 91, wife of the late George McLaughlin, passed away May 9, 2013, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Springfield, the daughter of Frank M. and Edith (Averill) Lombard.

After she left Springfield, she moved to Old Town, then to Lincoln where she spent her later years. She followed in her mother's footsteps, earning a bachelor's degree and teaching school for many years in Wytopitlock, Lee, Alton, Milford and Lincoln. She was a kind and compassionate person, never judging, always caring and known by many as "my favorite teacher." Rebecca was a quiet lady, often teaching as much by what she didn't say as by what she did say.

Her 34 direct descendants include her children, Sandra Tolman and Blaine of Lincoln, Rebecca Briggs and Hazen of Palmyra and Stuart McLaughlin and Rosemary of Garnet Valley, Pa.; grandchildren, Tammy, Jill, Mark, Kaeley, Kristen, Darren, Melissa and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Alec, Regan, Kolby, Danielle, Lauren, Garrett, Kadyn, Ciara, Emily, Cody, Cassidy, Seth, Dylan, Tabyr, Kahlden, Mikayla and Jasmine; great-great-grandchildren, Kooper, Beckett, Tegan, Deiken, Brayden and soon to be born, Brantley; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Randy, Laura, and Beryl. She also leaves her life long friend, Shirley Delano. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by great-great-grandchild, Cole; and son-in-law, John Briggs.
Interment will be at Mills Cemetery, Springfield. (Bangor Daily News 5/13/2013)
