the third of 10 children of William and Lucy (Whitfield) McGandy. She
married Thomas John Bigham on May 8, 1882, in Lake Benton, Lincoln
County, Minnesota. Thomas was a house mover and carpenter. The Bighams
had four children: William John, Flora May, Alice Louise and Mary Ann
"Mamie".
Thomas died in 1923, and Mary Anne eventually went to live with their
daughter Mayme Telstad in Madison, Wisconsin. Mary Anne was confined to
a wheelchair when the furnace exploded, causing a fire. Mary Anne and her
three year old grandson, Palmer Erwin Telstad, both died of smoke inhalation.
A funeral/memorial service was held in Minnesota in 1935.
