OBITUARY:
MELVIN ROBERT LOWRY, our dear companion, father and friend passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 after a prolonged illness.

Mel was born on November 24, 1940 in Calgary, AB to the late Lorne and Olive Jestin Lowry of Calgary. He is survived by his sister Adeliene of Gretna, AB.

Predeceased by his brothers: Albert and Elwyn, both of Calgary and sister, Lois (Chuck) of Edmonton.

Mel enjoyed his upbringing in Calgary for 28 years, at which time he took employment in Lethbridge at Western Canada Hardware where he started a successful career in electrical wholesales. It was here in the workplace that he met his future wife, Arlene Heninger of Raymond. May 1, 1970 would see them marry, and eventually see them settle in Raymond. Here they were blessed with two children, Anthony (Heather) and Layne. To this family were the most precious part five grandchildren.

Mel joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 18, 1978 at which time he learned the joy of serving his fellowman in the different capacities that came to him. He especially loved the home teaching program of the church.

Mel was known far and wide. He was welcomed anywhere that he went. Traveling in his business afforded him the opportunity to meet many people and he always had a good story to lift everyone's spirits. To see Mel walk in the door was to bring a smile to your face. Met thoroughly enjoyed his 20 years employment with Westburne Electric of Lethbridge.
Mel and Arlene were often busy with their friends and family activities. He often planned surprise anniversary dinners for Arlene with the whole family in on the party. One of the greatest joys of his life was his affiliation with hockey, initially with coaching the eight to 10 year olds in the early 80's including his son Layne. He later became heavily involved with the Raymond Old Rangers Old-timer Hockey League for many years. He made many great friends as a player and manger with the assistance of Morris Fromm and Morris Peterson as coaches, until his health no longer allowed him to continue.

Despite many health setbacks, Mel was very successful in assisting Arlene in their commercial cleaning business, AM Cleaning. He was meticulous in every last detail.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Taylor Street Chapel in Raymond with Bishop Carlos Jensen officiating. Interment in the Temple Hill Cemetery.
