CHILLICOTHE - Doris W. Benson, 92, of Chillicothe died Monday, April 13, 2015, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.
Doris was born on Dec. 30, 1922, in Spring Valley, Ill., the daughter of John and Louise (Miller) Konnek [sic: Konneck]. She married Bill N. Benson [Billie Nelson "Bill" Benson] on May 29, 1943, in Junction City, Kan. They had two children, Wayne [(Rosana)] Benson of Hopewell, Ill., and Kathie (Del) Deiss of Pekin, Ill.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one [twin] sister, Dorothy Donaldson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a niece, Dahna [Donaldson].
[Doris graduated from Hopkins Township High School, Granville, Ill., with the Class of 1922.] Doris worked for many years for West Clock [sic: Westclox] Factory in Peru and then as the office manager for Gray Auto Parts in Chillicothe.
Doris was very active in the community, serving as a member of the American Legion Post 9 Auxiliary in Chillicothe, the past president of the Ladies Golf League at the Lacon County Club and the past secretary of the Chillicothe Planning Commission.
Doris was also very active in her church, the Plymouth Congregational Church, where she served at [sic] treasure [sic] for many years.
It was Doris' wish that she be cremated. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Chillicothe City Cemetery in Chillicothe.
