Marjorie Jane Mathews, 93, of Tyler passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Tyler.

Mrs. Mathews, a retired phlebotomist, was born on June 7, 1919, in Sheridan, Ill., to Ralph and Mabel (Curtis) Thompson. She also resided in Illinois and Ohio before moving to Tyler in 1953. She was a member of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church.

She married Donald Eugene Mathews on June 14, 1940, in Kinsman, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Jr., Clarence, James and Donald; as well as her son, Larry Ross Mathews; daughter, Dolores Mae Martin; and grandson, Austin Glen Williams.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Williams and her husband Harold, of Tyler, Miriam Morrison, also of Tyler; brother, Charles Thompson, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Dorothy Jewell, of Warren, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Fifth Street Presbyterian Church, 1616 E. Fifth St., Tyler, with Pastor Steve Simmons officiating.

The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.

Entombment will follow at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
