Marguerite Dennis Perteet, 89, of McAlester, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at a local nursing center. She was born to Edgar and Ethel (Warick) Dennis on Nov. 8, 1923, in Wesley, Okla. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1942 and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She worked at the Pentagon as a clerk and typist at the onset of World War II. She married Euel James Perteet on Dec. 22, 1945, in McAlester. She taught school, worked as Senator Stipe's secretary in McAlester and worked at the State Capitol for several years. She also worked for the Oklahoma Department of Public Welfare and retired in 1982 as a Placement Officer for the State of Oklahoma Employment Office. She was the epitome of a "Yellow Dog Democrat" and was a member of the Pittsburg County Democratic Association. She was a member of McAlester First Baptist Church, Pittsburg Genealogy Society and the D.A.R. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, traveling, cooking, history and politics. She is survived by her sons, Don Perteet and wife, Connie, of McAlester, and James Perteet and wife, Marla, of Kiowa; a daughter, Sue Caldwell, of McAlester; grandchildren, Tammy Laymance and husband, Steve, of Flower Mound, Texas, Jeff Perteet, of Kiowa, Christina Snyder and husband, Michael, of McAlester, Barrett Fadler and wife, Amanda, of McAlester, Blake Fadler , of McAlester, Leigha Gorton and husband, Henry, of Oklahoma City, Jamie Osborne, of Yukon, Eva McCoy and husband, Casey, of Durant, John McWaters, of McAlester, Luke McWaters, of Dallas, Texas; and 11 great grandchildren. Also, brothers, Mack Dennis and wife, Crystal, of Maryland, and Claude Dennis and wife, Betty, of Sun City, Calif.; sisters, Dean Thompson, of Tulsa, Mary Nicolosi, of Oklahoma City, Beulah Wilson, of Oklahoma City, and Fern O'Daniel, of Norman; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Ethel Dennis; husband, Euel Perteet on April 22, 2003; a son, Dennis Perteet; a twin sister, Juanita Dennis; and brothers, Edgar Dennis, Franklin Dennis and Wayne Dennis. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at the Perteet Family Cemetery in Bugtussle. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Luke McWaters, John McWaters, Jeff Perteet, Ronnie Dennis, Henry Gorton, and Michael Snyder. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Wilson, Jerry Perteet, Barrett Fadler and Jason Henrichs. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer's Disease or to the American Cancer Society.
