"Centreville, July 28 - Death of Mrs Ernest Gray - Inez, wife of Ernest Gray, died Friday morning, July 23, at the family residence in Athens township, aged 44 years. Some time ago she submitted to an operation, at the Titusville hospital, for cancer of the breast, which was apparently successful, and upon returning home the wounds healed but she failed to gain strength and gradually grew worse until the end came. It is supposed that the cause of death was an internal cancerous growth. Mrs Gray was the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Chase formerly of Rome township, and a member of the Mageetown Catholic church. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs Hazel Smith and Mrs Mabel Eldred and her aged father, with many lesser relatives. The funeral was held at the church of the Immaculate Conception at Mageetown Monday morning, and interment in the church cemetery, Rev David Hartnett officiated. Mrs Gray was a good, kind neighbor and had many friends who will regret her demise and sympathize with those who mourn."
