Lucinda was the daughter of Holland Higgins Jr. and unknown 1st wife (or companion / no marriage record found) born in the Cane River area of Buncombe Co. (now Yancey), NC. Her mother died when she was young and Lucinda lived with her grandparents Holland Higgins Sr. and Peggy Ellis-Higgins as noted in the 1810 Buncombe Co. Census. Holland Higgins' 2nd wife, Barbara Hensley-Higgins (d/o Henry Hensley and Barbara Angel) became her stepmother and raised Lucinda until of age after which time she married her brother, William Allison Hensley.
