C. T Cavanaugh, 63, who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage several weeks ago, died at 5:30 a. m. last Friday at his home in Voorhies. All of his life was spent in that community. Christopher Thomas Cavanaugh was born February 12, 1886, near Voorhies, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R . Cavanaugh. On April 27, 1910 he married May Malloy, of Independence, at Blessing church. They farmed in that vicinity for several years, retiring about ten years ago because of his ill health.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Merle of Dinsdale; and John C. of Waterloo; six daughters, Mrs. Linder Mask of Hudson; Mrs. John E. Lamar of Waterloo; Mrs. John J. Moran of Arlington, Virginia; Mrs. Edwin Andorf of Cedar Falls; Mrs. Kenneth Schulz, of Waterloo; and Mrs. Al Duffy of Fairbank Iowa; two brothers, John and Will of Waterloo; and four sisters, Mary Cavanaugh and Mrs. Frank Huber of Waterloo; Mrs. E. B. Mullin, of Traer, and Mrs. Will Ryan of Marshalltown. Sixteen grandchildren also survive. Mr. Cavanaugh was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Phil Mahoney; and a brother, Leo; a son, Daniel Emmett Cavanaugh, Navy coxswain, who died at sea during World War II when his ship, the U. S. S. Lansdale, a destroyer, was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean sea April 20, 1944; and a daughter, Mrs. Mike Jensen who was taken in 1948. He was a member of Immaculate Conception church, Blessing.
Funeral services were held Monday at 9 a. m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic church at Blessing, the Rev. Fr. Joseph Schemmel, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hudson had charge of the flowers. Casket bearers were Roy Thornton, Joe Murphy, Charles, Ed, George and Eugene Cavanaugh.
