Born c.1705-1706, to John and Elizabeth (nee Wheeler) Ogden, Mrs. Williams died in "ye 63rd year of her age", predeceasing her husband, David, by almost a dozen years. The headstones of the couple, who lie interred side by side, are the work of different craftsmen. Mrs. Williams' brown sandstone stele is the more finely wrought of the two, and features a portrait-type, winged soul effigy. It appears to have been made by Boston carver William Grant, who moved to New York, and then to New Jersey during the 1740's, where he remained active into the 1790's. Much of his work, which features pear-faced soul effigies, is in the Presbyterian churchyards of Orange and Woodbridge, NJ. In contrast, David Williams' stone seems to compensate for the cruder quality of its craftsmanship with the exhuberance and greater detail of its design.
