Born c.1703, Mr. Williams died at age 78. A widower for almost a dozen years at the time of his death, he lies interred next to his wife, Phebe. The design of his brown sandstone stele has an exhuberant quality, its tympanum featuring a portrait-type soul effigy with scarf-life wings, crowned by an asphodel, and flanked by hourglasses---a double reminder that one's days on earth are numbered. The partially illegible epitaph reads:

Departd this Life
March 8, 1781
In th 78 Year
of his Age
My flesh shall slumber in ye Ground
Till the Last Trumpet's Joyful Sound
Then burst ye Christ..."
