Charles R. HOUSEL
The death of Charles R. HOUSEL occurred at his home on East Third street on Saturday afternoon. His age was 78 years, he had been in poor health for a long time. The surviving members of his family are his wife; W.H. HOUSEL, steward of the Lock Haven Normal School; H.G. HOUSEL and Bruce HOUSEL, of Philadelphia, Irvin HOUSEL, of town. There are two sisters, Mrs. William COLWELL and Mrs. Edward GERBER, both of Williamsport.
The deceased was born in Lock Haven, and has resided in Bloomsburg for the past thirty-five years. He served as street commissioner several years, and conducted a fish, oyster and green grocery on Iron street of a long time. He was a member of the Reformed church.
The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. W. C. SLOUGH. The remains were intterred in the Almedia cemetery.
NOTE: Although this obituary clearly states that Charles was born in Lock Haven, the evidence seems to indicate another part of Pennsylvania.
-------
NOTE: Though it is accepted by many that the R. of Charles' middle name stands for 'Rhodes', it is only his death certificate, which incorrectly lists his mother's maiden name that tells us this information. We also know that there were at least two Joseph R. Housel's in the extended family where the R is to have stood for Rhodes.
