Mrs. Marguerite Eklund
Mrs. Marguerite Jessop Eklund, 65, 1211 Woodward, died Monday in a Topeka hospital where she was admitted April 16. She had cancer.
She was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Topeka where she spent most of her life. She was employed by the State of Kansas as a key punch operator and worked in the insurance department before she retired in 1973.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served 15 years as superintendent of the kindergarten department of the Sunday school.
She was married to Joe O. Eklund Nov. 23, 1932, in Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Larry Eklund, Wichita; a daughter, Mrs. Sharon Harry, 5518 W. 15th Terrance; a brother, William Jessop, Del Norte, Colo.; six sisters, Mrs. Lillian Horton, Eastland, Tex., Mrs. Eva Bell, Lyndon, Mrs. Irene Baker, Amarillo, Tex., Mrs. Mary Alice Allen, Plymouth, N.H., Mrs. Marjorie Howard, Overbrook, and Mrs. Marie Whitford, Des Moines, Iowa, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Eklund will lie in state from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3003 Van Buren, 66611.
