Charlotte Louise Evenson Harvey died April 1, 2009. She was the daughter of Ida Elvira "Vi" and Nels Martinus Evenson. Charlotte was born June 14, 1915 in Osakis, Minnesota.

Charlotte was the valedictorian of her 1933 graduating class. Because of typhoid fever, she took 5 years to finish college, graduating in 1938 from the University of Minnesota with a degree in commercial education.

Due to the fact that her mother had passed away during her senior year in college, she went home to Osakis to work in the bank her father had founded. She assumed several roles there and when she left in January of 1942, she was not only on the board of directors, but a vice-president. She continued to serve on the board until January 1998 when her daughter, Diane, replaced her. She was a director emeritus until her death.

Her father died in 1942 when the world was in the throes of WWII. Charlotte felt the call to serve her country and was ready to enlist in the services. She received a call that they needed college graduates to teach at various places. She accepted a job with the War Department at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. It was there that she would meet her future husband, John H. Harvey.

After teaching in the Senior Clerks School for a period of time, Charlotte was transferred to the Pentagon. As luck would have it so was John, who was also with the War Department. On March 10, 1945, they were married by Dr. Peter Marshall, the then Senate Chaplin, at the Lincoln Chapel of The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.

When the war ended, John purchased a weekly newspaper in Glenwood, MN. It was there they were blessed with two children: Diane Louise, born 9-9-46 and Gregory John, born 7-25-47. A third child, Nelson Alleyn, was born in June 1955 but did not survive.

In 1948 John sold the paper and went to work for Standard Register Co. which would take the family to Des Moines, Iowa, Davenport, Iowa, and Moline, Illinois. He would eventually leave SRC and rejoin the government at the Rock Island Arsenal.

While in Moline, Charlotte was very active in PTA, Republican Women's Group, and Kings Daughters. She also enjoyed playing bridge with various groups and taught for a year at the Moline Institute of Commerce.

Greg died in January of 1967 and after that John's health declined. He retired from the government and Charlotte became more active with her volunteer groups.

In 1979, they moved to Winter Haven, FL where Charlotte continued her GOP activities and joined several groups, including Friday Morning Bridge and Friendship Club. She also served several terms on the board of directors of the Lake Buckeye Condominium.

Charlotte enjoyed many active years in Winter Haven even though she had had both knees replaced, and had developed macular degeneration, which stopped her driving.

In June of 2003 she moved to Chesterfield, MO to be near her daughter, Diane H. Flagler. Her choice of homes was the Chesterfield Villas where she continued her love of bridge several times a week.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Diane H. Flagler; her friend, Edward J. McCorkendale of Chesterfield, MO; nephews Newman Olson, Jr. of Osakis, MN and Scottsdale, AZ and Steven J. Olson of Osakis, MN and Green Valley, AZ; plus numerous great-nephews and great-great nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, John, sons, Nelson Alleyn Harvey and Gregory Harvey, and sister, Katherine A. Olson.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Osakis, MN, where services will be held Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m. Burial will in the Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis next to her son and husband.
