Martin was known as Elder Pierson or Reverend Pierson when he lived at Yates County, NY. He may have been married three times.

He married Abigail (Randall?) in 1809 at Eaton, Madison County, NY. She died in 1841 at Milo, Yates County, NY.

His second marriage may have been with Sarah Harris in 1943 at Yates County, NY.

Thirdly, he may have married Elizabeth Wheeler in 1848 at Naples, Ontario, NY.

Martin was a Methodist preacher in the early 1800's. At an unknown date some Methodists in the Penn Yan area of Yates County, NY, excluded several local and traveling ministers for heresy. Some of the excluded preachers were Martin Pierson, Reuben and Benjamin Farley, William Curry, Stephen Lamphier and James Potter.

Circa 1854 Martin moved to Ionia County, Michigan along with his sons David and Orison. He and his sons built the first cabin in this part of Michigan, which was later named the town of Pierson at what was to become Montcalm County.

Martin was buried on the farm of his son Orison but his remains were later moved to the town cemetery at Pierson.

On 19 September 1827 at Milo, NY, Rev. Martin Pierson performed the marriage ceremony of Drusilla Whitney and Benjamin Runyan.

Some of this information was sourced from the works of Lizzie B. Pierson, Pierson Genealogical Records, Joel Munsell, Printer, Albany, NY, 1878 and some was sourced from the (1916) History of Montcalm County by John W. Dasef.
