Lacassine-Keith "Bit" Ackel, 57, lost his battle with cancer at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

He was born in Alexandria on November 28, 1955 to Don and Numa Ackel. Keith was a graduate of Sulphur High and a member of St. John the Evangelist in Lacassine. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Operative Engineering Local #3. Keith enjoyed collecting guns, NASCAR, horses, reading, hunting and fishing.

Keith is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Tina Galley Ackel; son, Jason Anthony Janssen and wife, Jill; grandchildren, Abigail, Micah, Bryson and Kinley; parents, Don and Numa Ackel; brothers, Dan Ackel, Sam Ackel and Nathaniel Ackel; sisters, Angela Ackel and Sondra Schwaab and husband, Tom; mother in law, Dorothy Galley; sister and brother in laws, Sharon and Steve Meyer, Trena and Victor Miller, Tim and Donna Galley, Tana and Sherman Broussard and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father in law, Pierre Galley.

A memorial service will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Visitation is on Monday from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Cremation is entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Keith's memory at Jeff Davis Bank to help with medical expenses.
