He was a retired farmer, former member of the National Guard, former Henderson fireman and former employee of Allpest.
Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Dessie McKinney Baxter; two brothers; a daughter; and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Shirley Baxter; one son, James Cannon Jr. of Henderson; two daughters, Patricia Hunnicutt of Henderson and Tabatha Baxter of Reed; three brothers, Randall Baxter and Rodney Baxter, both of Henderson, and Keith Baxter of Owensboro; two sisters, Mary Ruth Baxter and Sharon Diane Haynes, both of Henderson; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted at later date.
