She was born in New Mexico when it was still a territory, her mother was Waa-Nibe "Singing Grass"; her mother was born in 1809 in Taos, NM and died in 1838, perhaps in child birth, in NM. She was an Arapaho Indian.

1860 census Adeline is living alone in Tulare County, CA, aged 25, born NM which is some one year after the plaque claims she died.

Adaline married George Stilts about 1858; she may have married Louis Simmons before she married George Stilts.

Mono Dedication At Gravesite
The paper has the write up on the dedication of the plaque of Adeline Carson Stilts.

Louis Simmons born 1820 died 1854
George Stilts born 1820 died 1858

The following information was sent to me by the Mono County Historian, Mark Davis:
Mother was Arapahoe. Would have lived near the corners of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Died just after the birth of a second daughter.

Louis Simmons (various spelling) Married Adaline in 1853, either in Taos or Rayado. They accompanied Kit Carson on a sheep drive to California in 1853. In September 1853, they arrived in California. Kit set them up in a Ranch with proceeds from the Sheep. A letter from Kit's Brother implies that they are in California still in1854. Louis was back in Taos in 1857. Louis lived most of his later life near Brown's Hole. He dies in Vernal Utah in 1894 of senile dementia.

An impersonator claimed to be "Kit Carson's daughter". She turns up after the death of Adaline in Monoville and Aurora. That prostitute was listed in the Tulare county census of 1860. She did not have the correct first name. She is the source of claiming she was born in New Mexico. She stabbed a man in Monoville. She was involved with the Daly Gang in Aurora. She had to have a witness sign a property deed for her in 1864.

The real Adaline "Prairie Flower" Carson had at least 8 years of schooling in Missouri. She was with the Carson Family from 1842 to 1851. Her mother died in 1838 or 1839 after the birth of a second girl. Adaline was probably born in 1836 or 1837. This would make her 6 at the time Kit took her to be educated. The younger sister died in a kettle of boiling soap at Bent's fort or Taos.

Adaline died in December 1859 at Monoville shortly after the birth of a son. George W. Stilts and son appear in the 1870 census of Idaho. Her grave is on private land in a family plot. The permanent grave marker was placed in 1929 by Venita McPherson.
