She was born in New Mexico when it was still a territory, her mother was Waa-Nibe "Singing Grass"; her mother was born in 1809 in Taos, NM and died in 1838, perhaps in child birth, in NM. She was an Arapaho Indian.

1860 census Adeline is living alone in Tulare County, CA, aged 25, born NM which is some one year after the plaque claims she died.

Adaline married George Stilts about 1858; she may have married Louis Simmons before she married George Stilts.
