Florence Spindler, 1001 E. Crescent Dr. Manitowoc, passed away on Friday evening, April 26, 2013 at the age of 92.

Florence was born on June 29, 1920 in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late Bernard and Tetja (Briemer) Vellenga. After graduating from Fenger High School in Chicago, she attended Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, MO and after two years transferred to the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, after which she taught school in Waukesha.

Florence married Attorney John M. Spindler on July 31, 1945 in Chicago. John preceded her in death on July 5, 2001. During her years in Manitowoc, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon and also as an Elder. She was a member of the Junior Service League, served on the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts and on the Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Florence is survived by five children: John (Mary) Spindler, Rockford, IL; Susan (Tom) Nebel, Clarksville, TN; Stephen Spindler, Manitowoc; Diane Spindler, Indian Hills, CO; Benjamin (Amy) Spindler, New London; five grandchildren: Olivia (Jesse) Riha, Dr. Elizabeth Vassey, Matthew Nebel, Ashley Spindler, Anne Spindler; three great- grandchildren: Evelyn Riha, Amanda Riha and Isabella Riha. Florence was preceded in death by her parents: Bernard and Tetja Vellenga; her husband: John M. Spindler; three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 502 N. 8th St. The Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Sauer will officiate with burial to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, YMCA or a charity of the donor's choice . The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory of Manitowoc is serving the Spindler family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.jensreinboldandpfeffer.com
