Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 1995, in the Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel for Clifford J. Dernbach, a chemist for Union Carbide for 31 years who died Dec. 18 at age 86.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

Mr. Dernbach was born Sept. 18, 1909, in Portland. He attended Saint Stephen's Grade School, Christian Brothers and Columbia Prep. He obtained bachelor and doctorate degrees from Oregon State University.

urviving are his wife, Margaret; sons, James of Klamath Falls, Gerard of Lake Oswego and Donald of Aloha; daughters, Mary Johnson of Beaverton and Ellen Nadeau of Kapuskasing, Ontario; brothers, Ralph of Santa Rosa, Calif., Robert of Puyallup, Wash., Theadore ''Mike'' and the Rev. Arthur Dernbach of Portland; sisters, Florence Mayer of Napa, Calif., Berniece Wusz of Portland and Mary Seath of Vancouver, British Columbia; and 10 grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be to St. Vincent de Paul at the church.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
