Lewis Thomas Jordan passed April 26, 2013. He was born February 2, 1921 in Monticello, Georgia. He was the son of Charles and Annie Jordan. He attended high school in Monticello, GA and then attended Ft. Valley State College where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science. He also received a Master of Science in Social Work from Atlanta University. He met his future wife, Mamie P. Jordan while at Fort Valley. They married in 1943 and were married for 69 years. He served in the air force for three years and was a member of the 332nd Fighter Group of the Tuskegee Airmen, including overseas duty in Italy. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and received meritorious recognition for his years of service. He spent 34 years as a devotee to social service work where, as an administrator, he helped hundreds of children and families throughout the Greater Kansas City area. For 17 years, he was the Superintendent of the Niles Home for Children. He then spent 17 years as Director of Medical Social Services for Children's Mercy Hospital. Among his community service activities, he served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Crittenton Center and as a Verger and a Senior Warden for St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife, Mamie Pearson Jordan, of the home; his three daughters, Brenda J. McGee (James0 Long Beach, CA; Patricia A. Jordan (Marvin Foster); and Rita A. Jordan; a sister, Fannie Brown; and niece Vivian Thomas; and nephew Charles Lewis Rooks, all of Detroit, MI; and three nephews; Vernon Jordan, Jr., New York, N.Y. , and Windsor Jordan and Marvin Jordan, both of Atlanta, GA.; and sister- in-law Lavesta Rutland of Atlanta, GA; and brother-in-law Alfred O. Pearson, Dublin, GA. He also leaves brothers and sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews from the Pearson, Spearman, Rutland, and Cummings families and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Annie and Charlie Andrew Jordan; his grandson, Maurice Trey Freeman, III; and eight brothers and sisters. The viewing will be held at 1pm and Services will be held at 2pm at the Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels, 1800 E. Linwood Boulevard 816-921-1800. The Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. The Family Requests in lieu of flowers donations be made out to KU Endowment - JCCC Autism Support Club or to Children's Mercy Hospital Foundation.
