Helen Pledger Summers, 72, passed away May 1, 1997 at the Ogden Regional Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born May 25, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Arthur George and Sarah Ann Johns Pledger. She married James Keith Summers, September 14, 1953 in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 26, 1993.She was reared and educated in the Ogden area and graduated from Ogden High School where she had served as president of the Art Club. She has lived in Georgia, Kansas City, Texas and South Carolina. She moved back to Utah in 1995. She was a member of the LDS Church and was active having served in various positions. She retired as a Regional Sales Representative for Artex Hobby Products, which included training seminars throughout the continental United States.

Surviving are her husband, James of Layton; three sons and three daughters, Morris Dean (Janice) Summers, Prairie Village, Kansas; James Manning (Colleen) Summers, Layton; Jon Pledger (Lou Ann) Summers, Grain Valley, Missouri; Diann (Rick) Johns, Clinton; Rebecca (Alan) Wilde, Orem; Traci Ann Summers, Wilmington, North Carolina; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Pearl Pledger, Clinton; three brothers and three sisters, Art (Marilyn) Pledger, Kaysville; Robert (Beverly) Pledger; Richard (Pat) Pledger, both of Roy; Glenna (A. LeRoy) Allen, Ogden; Donna (Lue) Brinkerhoff, Glendale, UT; Merian (Rulon) Stephens, Ogden. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Travis Johns.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 1997 at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 North Fairfield Rd. Friends may call Friday, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton.'

The family also wishes to express special thanks to the Ogden Regional Medical Center, Transitional Care Unit and Dr. Leslye Ingersoll, and request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
