Mack Jack Howard was the second child born to John Quincy and Cleo Coleman Howard on April 30, 1919 in Hodge, Louisiana. He was a prankster in his youth and enjoyed giving his grandmother a hard time.

In 1937, Mack was working at a small feed and grocery store near Jonesboro, Louisiana when he met Mary Francis Baxter. They were married on October 9, 1937 at the Jonesboro courthouse.

Mack and Mary had five children: Billy Ray (died at birth), Wilbur Ray, Billy Mack, Sarah Maxine, and Earl Cleo. Mack worked for Sheffield Steel later known as Armco Steel in Houston, Texas.

Mack was known as "Mr. Fix-It". He could repair or make anything. He took up clock making and repairs late in his life. He had over 100 clocks at the time of his death.

Time stopped for Mack on September 21, 2001 in Houston, Texas.
