Elsie M. Barnwell, 85, of Edneyvllle, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at Park Ridge Hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and a daughter of the late Benjamin L and Sara Hill Merrell. She was the wife of the late William Howard Barnwell, who died In 1960.
She was a member of Mt. Morlah Baptist Church.
She Is survived by a son and his wife, William V. and June L. Barnwell of Edneyvllle; a daughter-in-law, Peggy A. Barnwell of East Flat Rock; a sister, Hester M. Fowler of Hickory; six grandchlldren; four great-grandchilden; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded In death by a son. Donald B. Barnwell, who died Feb. 21. 1997.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Elliott officiating. Burial will follow In the Bat Cave Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Thos. Shephard & Son Funeral Directors and at other times the family will be at the residence of William Barnwell, Bee Hive Inn Road, Edneyville.
