Dexter Martin died on April 13, 1880 in Springfield, VT where he had been born on May 13, 1809; the son of Ephraim Jr and Nancy (Haywood) Martin. (Some list his name as Ephraim Dexter Martin but his birth, marriage and death records all state Dexter Martin.)

He married Charlotte Lee on December 8, 1833 in Springfield.

He was preceded in death by sons Horace Hayward Martin in 1862, Frederic Edmond Martin in 1869 and Collins Griswold Martin and daughter Lucy Jane Martin who both died on the same date in 1843.

He is survived by his wife and children Gratia Philena Martin, John Henry Martin, Lucy Ann Martin, Frank Dexter Martin, Emma Jane Martin, and Ella Maria Martin.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
