Monty was my mom's dog but I loved him too. He was a pure bred "broken-coat" Jack Russell terrier. My sister got him as a gift for my mom. I was with my sister when she picked him up and I spent the first night with him cuddling him while he cried since everything was so new! I think we formed a strong bond at that time, but my mom was his Mommy and he knew it! She loved him dearly and took good care of him.

He was a very good dog - he liked to herd us when we were in the yard running in smaller and smaller circles until we were bunched up. He hated the sound of trash trucks and would hide on trash day. He wasn't much of a walker which worked out well as my mother got older but he enjoyed being tied out in the yard where he could lay under the maple and bark at all the dogs going by to walk on the bay. He enjoyed his doggie cousins but was not very receptive to his cat cousins. He loved barking at squirrels. I took care of Monty for six months when my mom had knee surgery. He was soooo good even though I had to be at work all day. When I visited my mom, Monty would shadow me. When I would sit, he would just stare at me. I asked mom what she thought he was doing. She said "he was memorizing me" to remember later when I was gone.

One early spring day, the groomer noticed a lump on Monty and the end came very quickly. Mom had to make the decision to put him to sleep. I miss him terribly. I memorized him too.
