My Dad was a litte over 6' tall with hazel eyes and brown hair.He was a big man with a heart just as big. He'd help anyone who needed it. He was a mechanic and could fix anything. He played the harmonica really well and liked Tex Ritter - a country music singer.
In high school, he was an athlete. He was a pole vaulter. He also rode a motorcycle.
He served in the U.S. Army with his brothers, Michael and Emil.
He fell in love and married Margaret (Peggy) Matrisin(1919-1999. They had 2 children.
He worked as a bus mechanic, but, as with most small coal towns, more and more people left looking for work. He then went to work at Bethlehem Steel in Pa. and, later, for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore. He use to come home for the weekends and always brought a small paper bag with penny candy in it for me and my brother.
Eventually, he bought a house and we moved to Baltimore,Md.
According to family members, his childhood must have been hard on him. His mother Mary (Zelinko) Dubrawsky died (1894-1927) when he was 13. He had 2 brothers Michael Jr.(1915-1974) and Emil and 1 sister - Helen.
When his father Michael C. Dubrawsky (1893-1965) remarried, he gave the two older brothers, Albert and Michael, Jr to the grandparents (Zelinko)to raise. It seems his father, Mike Sr. married a girl (Mary H 1910-1999)of 19 years of age. My father, Albert, at the time was 15years old and brother Michael Jr. was 13. My father never spoke to his father again. I never met my grandfather until he came to my father's funeral. My father died at 45 years of age of a heart attack. He was helping the neighbor carry hot tar up a ladder to the flat roof the day before. He died in the ambulance in the Harbor Tunnel on the way to the hospital.
