DONALD "DIGGLES" GARRITY Port Jervis, N.Y. Donald "Diggles" Garrity, a retired machine operator for the Erie Railroad, Port Jervis, and a life-long resident of the area, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at his home. He was 85. Born in Kent, Ohio, on April 14, 1918, he was the son of the late James and Mildred Romaine Garrity. His first marriage was to Mary Ellen Pepper, his second marriage was to the late Florence Heater Garrity, and his third marriage was to Helen Heater Case Garrity, who survives. He was a veteran of the US Navy in WWII; life member of the Tri-State Naval Ship #7241, Port Jervis; 50 year member of Port Jervis Fire Department, and Tri-State Hose Co. #6. Survivors include his wife Helen Heater Case Garrity at home; his former wife Mary Ellen Pepper of the Town of Greenville; 2 sons, Earl J. Garrity of Port Jervis, NY and his companion Cheryl, Kenneth Garrity and his wife Joan of Port Jervis; two daughters, Joyce Decker and her husband Carl of Greenville; Janet Tidd of Port Jervis, NY; one step-son Robert Case of Port Jervis; one brother, Joseph Garrity of Port Jervis; two sisters, Mildred Space of Middletown, NY and Dorothy Dunn of Newburgh, NY; 7 grandchildren: Darlene Cotterrill, Dawn Dilles, Jenny McElroy, and her husband Rich; Kenneth Garrity, Jr., Emily Rink, Graham McDonald, Debbie Runnalls; 7 great-grandchildren: Rik, Zak, and Nik Dilles; Ethan McElroy, Brad & Chris Foster, Cean Meadimer and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Earl Garrity, III, great-grandson Donald Decker, step-daughter Joyce Brighton, daughter-in-law Lee Garrity, and son-in-law Arnold Tidd. Friends may call on Thursday, February 26 from 7-9 pm at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main Street, Port Jervis. The funeral will be on Friday, February 27 at 10:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. Ronald Clark officiating. Tri-State Naval Ship will conduct services at 7:30 pm Thursday evening; Port Jervis Fire Department will conduct services at 8 pm. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Castle Point Veteran's Administration Hospital, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
