WALTER McGUFFEY
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel for longtime Gridley resident Walter McGuffey, 78, who died Tuesday in Biggs-Gridley Hospital following a snort illness.
Born Sept. 17, 1906, in Broken Bow, Neb., he moved at the age of 10 to Gridley, where he lived until his death.
McGuffey was a heavy equipment operator most of his adult life, working for various construction firms including Baldwin Construction Co. of Marysville and H. Earl Parker Construction Co. of Yuba City. In 1971 became self employed.
In 1961 he built the McGuffey Motel in Gridley, which he owned until his death.
He was member of Gridley Gleaners.
His wife, Dena died 1967.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Hoyt and Helen Orosco, both of San Jose; a sister Gertrude McDowell of Willits; two brothers, Lester McGuffey of Willits and Chester of Gridley; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be in Gridley-Biggs District Cemetery.
