DEATH OF DR. J. H. BEHNE.
Dr. John Henry Behne, one of the leading physicians of this city, died yesterday at hisу,residence No. 25 South Sixth street, aged 76 years, after an illness of several weeks. He was born in Nordhausen, Prussia, and
graduated in medicine at Wurzburg, Bavaria. He came to this country in 1840 as an allopathand located with his family in this city. Subsequently at the earnest solicitation of Dr .Lippe, of the Philadelphia Homeopathic College, Dr. Behne studied Homeopathy and be-came one of the most successful practitioners in the State. He was the Secretary of Germania Lodge, I. O. O. F., for several years. About ten years after his arrival in this country his wife died and in the course of time he marriedd Miss Zabel, of N.Y. He leaves a widow and three children, the eldest being Mr. Gustavus Behne, the artist. Dr. Behne possessed in an eminent degree the personal magnetism which so largely aids the practitioner in attaining success. In every relation of life he was es-teemed and honored, but his virtues seemed to shine brightest in the home circle of which he was the loved head and center. He was a remarkably domestic man for a physician, finding opportunity as he did' to pass many happy hours with his family, from whom he was never parted any length of time, except once during the thirty years of his residence in Reading. His funeral will take place on Friday at 2 p. m. and his remains will be interred in the Charles Evans Cemetery.
