BOY WAS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED BY BALL
SON OF COL. AND MRS. GEO. C. EVANS MET TRAGIC DEATH SUNDAY AFTERNOON
William Howard Evans the youngest son of Col. and Mrs. Geo. C. Evans, died from the effects of the stroke of a ball Sunday afternoon at the residence of his parents on south Harris street. A number of boys were present and when the ball was pitched and struck with a bat the ball struck the little boy either in the stomach or directly over the heart. When he fell the other boys picked him up thinking that he was temporarily stunned. A messenger was immediately sent for his parents who were at the Baptist church attending the funeral services of Hon. W.R. Thigpen, and they with several friends left a once for the scene of the accident, which is only a short distance from the church. When they arrived the child was dead. Dr. Evans and Dr. Jamerson who were among the first to reach there, endeavored to revive the child, but the blow was fatal.
Nothing that has occurred in Sandersville in many years has produced such a shock to the community as the sad ending of this little child's life, which came almost with the swiftness of a lightning stroke. The parents were prostrated by the calamity which came with such suddenness and the deepest sympathy of the entire community goes out to them in their sadness and sorrow. They had previously lost two children by death. The little boy was four years of age and was an unusually healthy and active child.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. A.D. Woodle assisted by Rev. A. Chamlee and a large number of sympathizing friends and sorrowing relatives were present as a mark of respect to the bereaved family.
