Two Pioneers Are Called to Their Resting Place Within a Week:
- W.S. Root
In our last issue we published a short obit of Wm. S. Root who passed away May 17th. The following biography, which Rev. Kiracofe prepared for us by request is a testimonial of his long life so well and nobly lived.

W.S. Root was born in the state of New York, April 9th, 1841. December 25, 1893 [1863] he was married to Miss May E. Cooley and in the following spring with his courageous and brave young wife he saw fit to face the hardships of a new country, now the state of Minnesota. He located near Fort Ridgely, in Nicollet county, in which county together with Brown and Redwood counties he lived until his death. To this union were given four children, one daughter (Mrs. Thos. Butcher) and three sons, C.B. and W.H. and one who was called from this walk of life in the prime of young manhood, Feb. 1, 1889.

For 69 years, 1 month and 8 days, father Root was rounding up his life's career which was one of industry, frugality, honesty and patience, always looking after the best interest of his home and loved ones, leaving as the fruits of his life a family of worth and character, two sons and daughter such as a father and mother might well be proud of and that any town and community might gladly welcome.

On May 17, 1910, God saw fit to relieve him from his sufferings and when the chariot came the Messenger found him patiently waiting.

Thus Father, Husband and Brother has gone leaving a companion, two sons, one daughter, two sisters and thirteen grandchildren and many friends to mourn his departure. Thus a loyal and good citizen has crossed the sands of time leaving evidence that life is real and death sure.

Funeral services were conducted by this writer from the Presyterian church, May 19, 1910, at 11 o'clock am. Text: Hebrews 6:1.
