West Volunteer Firefighters Robert Snokhous and Doug Snokhous, brothers, died while fighting the fire and resulting explosion at the West Chemical & Fertilizer Company in West, Texas.

Douglas J. "Doug" Snokhous, age 50, of West, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, while providing the ultimate sacrifice to the Community of West.

A Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, followed by visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2013, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Doug will lie in state beginning at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at Aderhold Funeral Home.

Doug was born on January 1, 1963 in Hillsboro, Texas to Jimmy Rudolph and Louise Marie (Jares) Snokhous. He attended St. Mary's Schools and was a 1980 graduate of West High School. For the past 29 years, he had worked for Central Texas Iron Works in Waco and was currently a shop supervisor.

He had been with the West Fire Department for over 15 years and loved BBQ's, Westfest, and the West Rodeo. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed deer and quail hunting and golfer and he especially loved spending time with his new grandson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Donna Gayle (Watson) Snokhous whom he married on November 07, 2000 in Waco, Texas; two daughters, Lauren Snokhous and Laken Snokhous of West; step-children, Steven Beseda and wife, Maggie of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Paul Beseda and wife, Amy of West and DeAnna Reaves and husband, Brandon of Azle, Texas; brother, Barry Snokhous of Okinawa, Japan; sister, Karen Hoelscher and husband, Keith of Ross, Texas; grandson, Hogan James Maler; and three step grandchildren, Ashley, Abbey and Andrew and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Fire Department, 119 S. Reagan St., West, TX 76691.
