John B. Carter, Jr., 60, of Nineveh, R.D. 1, died at 3:30 pm Wednesday, May 25, 1977 in the Greene County Memorial Hospital after a short term illness. Death was unexpected.

Mr. Carter was born August 2, 1916 in Morris Township, Greene County, a son of the late John B. and Mary Black Carter.

He had attended the public schools in Morris Township and the Nineveh High School. He was a graduate of Waynesburg College in 1940.
Mr. Carter then taught at the Nineveh High School and was also the principal of the school.

He served in World War II as a Master Sergeant in the Armored Tank Division in North Africa and Italy.

He had been a rural mail carrier at Nineveh and Dilliner for over 18 years.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as an elder until it merged to the United Methodist Church of Nineveh. He was a member of the board of Pastoral Relations and a Trustee of the Methodist Church. He also taught the Mens Bible Class and was superintendent of the church.

He was also a member of the Waynesburg BPO Elks 577.
Surviving are his widow, Sara Grove Carter, whom he married in 1947; a son, Charles Mike Carter at home; and a sister, Mrs. Kenneth L. (Lois) Smith of Daytona Beach, Fla.
