The son of James & Mary Ann (Swartz) Beaver, in 1860 he was a clerk living with
his family in Union Township, Union County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 4" tall
and had brown hair and dark eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at
Philadelphia, overstating his age by three years, on January 22, 1864, as a
private with Co. C, 187th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with
his company August 3, 1865.
He married Florence J. Reed in 1879, his first wife was Carrie who died in 1877. His name and those of Carrie and Florence appear on his monument.
His wife Carrie could be the Miss Carrie Cramer
