Leon grew up in Chicago, IL. and graduated from St. Augustine Catholic School. On January 6, 1944, he married Hazel Gusnard at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO. Leon served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Pasadena. During his service in the Navy, he was sent to Texas A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Leon and his brother owned and operated Badger Murphy in Chicago, IL. He also worked at Economics Laboratories in Joliet, IL. After retirement, he joined his family in Nebraska. Leon was a member of the O'Neill (NE.) American Legion Simonson Post #93, O'Neill (NE.) V.F.W. Post #926, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, O'Neill, NE. and the Knights of Columbus Council #701.
Leon is preceded in death by: wife, Hazel Nichols; mother and father; step mother, Julia Nichols and brother John Nichols.
Leon is survived by: daughter, Sharyn Troester and husband Dave, of O'Neill, NE.; Grandchildren; Denise Litz and husband Bob, of O'Neill, NE. and Aaron Troester and wife Jennifer, of O'Neill, NE.; 4 Great Grandchildren and Sister in Law, Lavern Nichols, of Orland Park, IL.
Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery, Oneill, NE. with military rites by the O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post #93, O'Neill V.F.W. Post 926, and escorted by the American Legion Riders.
