BLAINE - B. Marie Pierce, 84, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2013, at Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. Marie was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Westfield, the daughter of Rowe and Esther Sylvester.

Marie grew up on a dairy farm in Westfield where her father also grew potatoes. She was salutatorian of her class and was the Aroostook Central Institute winter carnival queen. She worked as a bookkeeper for many businesses including Maine Potato Growers, Inc., Weaver, Greenlaw and Nutter, Vahlsing, town of Mars Hill, Bradbury Barrel Co. and later was the joint owner, "Boss," of Big Rock Ski Area on Mars Hill Mountain. She was a positive role model to everyone she came in contact with through her kindness, generosity and her willingness to share whatever she had. She had a passion for knitting and singing at United Baptist Church of Mars Hill. Marie married the love of her life, Wendell Frederick Pierce, Oct. 17, 1947.

She is survived by her husband, Wendell, of Blaine; three daughters, Sue Dearborn and husband, Dwayne, of Virginia Beach, Va., Joy Towle and husband, Earle, of Fryeburg and Gayle Pierce of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Galen Sylvester of Alabama; sister-in-law, Ruth Sylvester of Robinson; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Gary Pierce, in February 2013; an infant daughter, Mary Anna; brother, Alden Sylvester, in April 2012; and sister-in-law, Margaret Sylvester.
Interment will be held in the spring at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill. (Bangor Daily News 4/16/2013)
