Manassah (q.v. Manasseh) Swift, s. of Samuel Swift and Ruth Hatch, b. of record Mar. 24, 1714/15 at Sandwich, Mass. He d. Mar. 25, 1807 at Falmouth, Mass. (g.s., Æ 93)

On Dec. 15, 1743 of record at Sandwich, Mass. (by Rev. Samuel Palmer), Manassah m. 1) Ruth Robinson, dau. of Joseph Robinson and Bethiah Lumbert, b. Apr. 24, 1721 at Falmouth. She d. at Falmouth Mar. 24, 1761 (g.s., Æ 40). There were nine children of the marriage, none with recorded dates of birth but all individually baptized at the Falmouth Cong. Church:

• i. Reuben Swift, bapt. July 14, 1745 who death has not been found; m. by an intention pub. June 8, 1777 at Falmouth, Temperance Weeks, dau. of David and Honour (Weeks) Weeks, b. Mar. 8, 1747/48 (bp. May 1, 1748), whose death has also not been found. Five children recorded at Falmouth.

• ii. Bethiah Swift, bapt. June 21, 1747, d. June 10, 1812 at Falmouth (g.s.); m. Nov. 13, 1766 at Falmouth, Job Parker, s. Dea. Benjamin Parker, Sr. and Hannah Lewis, b. Nov. 13, 1766 at Falmouth where he d. May 20, 1812 (g.s.) Eleven children of the family.

• iii. Joseph Swift, bapt. May 14, 1749; m. Nov. 19, 1772 at Falmouth, Bethiah Crowell.

• iv. Asaph Swift, bapt. Oct. 14, 1750, d. bef. Oct. 6, 1793 when his widow Elizabeth had his two youngest sons bapt.; m. Dec. 25, 1783 at Falmouth, Elizabeth Hincks. Four children of the family.

• v. Ephraim Swift, bapt. June 21, 1752, d. Sept. 1, 1842 at Falmouth (g.s.); m. 1) by an intention pub. Apr. 13, 1776 at Falmouth, Eleanor Chadwick, who d. Apr. 14, 1809 at Falmouth (g.s.); m. 2) prior to 1812, Sarah, whose maiden name is claimed to be Davis, who d. June 5, 1844 at Falmouth (grave rec.). Six children by the first wife and one by the second wife.

• vi. Anna Swift, bapt. May 19, 1754, d. Mar. 16, 1798 (g.s.); m. Apr. 27, 1776 at Falmouth as his first wife, Abial (q.v. Abiel) Eldred, s. of William Eldred and Rest Shiverick, b. Nov. 26, 1749 at Falmouth. He d. Aug. 2, 1838 at Falmouth (g.s.). Three known children of the marriage.

• vii. Abigail Swift, bapt. May 16, 1756, d. June 5, 1835; m. by an intention pub. June 29, 1776 at Falmouth, Barnabas Hatch, s. Eleazer Hatch and Sarah Bodfish, bapt. Dec. 8, 1751 at Falmouth. He d. Sept. 5, 1807 at Falmouth. Nine children of the family.

• viii. Joanna Swift, bapt. July 23, 1758; m. Sept. 20, 1779 at Falmouth, Holland Nye.

• ix. Ruth Swift, bapt. Oct. 21, 1759; no clear further record found.

On July 3, 1764 of record at Falmouth, Manassah m. 2) Tamar Chadwick, widow of Philip Dexter, whose parental origins have not been found. She d. Mar. 23, 1791 and was bur. Mar. 25, 1791 at Falmouth. The four children of the marriage are:

• x. Philip Swift, bapt. Apr. 28, 1765; m. May 16, 1787 at Falmouth, Ruth Butler. Three children recorded at Falmouth.

• xi. Judah Swift, bapt. July 24, 1768; no further record known (note: the first child of his brother Philip b. in 1788 was named Judah).

• xii. Manassah Swift, Jr., bapt. July 24, 1768; m. Dec. 9, 1789 at Falmouth, Tryphena Gifford, dau. of Lot Gifford and Olive Weeks, b. Jan. 27, 1771 at Falmouth, who d. Apr. 16, 1811 at Falmouth (g.s.). Three children recorded at Falmouth.
