James Bell, 74, who lived 3 miles west of Emlenton on Clintonville Road, died at 2:10 AM Friday morning, April 6, after an illness of more than a year.
He was a son of Sarah Ewing and William Bell and was born near Callensburg, Clarion County on February 19, 1854. The early years of his life were spent on a farm near Eau Claire, Butler County. He learned the blacksmith trade with William Vernon of North Washington and afterwards was associated with William McCandless, blacksmith of Eau Claire. Later he moved to Six Points, where he was engaged at his trade of blacksmith until the spring of 1892, when he purchased a farm in Scrubgrass Township known as the William Stubble farm, which he successfully operated for more than 35 years.
On December 5, 1876 James Bell was married to Clarisa McAllister, who survives with the following children, Edna Maude Bell, at home; Jessie L. (George P.) Clay of Franklin; and John Homer Bell, who owns an adjoining farm. Mr. Bell leaves five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and two brothers, George Bell of Thompson, Michigan and John Bell of Sharpsville.
