Frances Gray Duvall was born in 1897, in Sedalia, Missouri, later moving to Columbia, Missouri where her father was the Postmaster of Columbia and Auditor of the University of Missouri. While attending the University of Missouri she was Mortar Board President, Student Government Association Vice-President, Pi Beta Sorority and Savitar Queen, Vice President of Senior Class, and taught Sunday School her last two years where one of her students was Don Faurot for whom the University Football Stadium (Faurot Field) was named.


She graduated from the University of Missouri, School of Journalism, Class of 1919. Her first employment was by Metro Goldwyn Mayer, Hollywood California, where she interviewed celebrities of the day and wrote press releases for newspapers and magazines. She also wrote freelance articles for the Los Angeles Times. But her heart brought her back to Pike County where she and Milton Duvall, her college sweetheart, were married in 1920 and had two children, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


In addition to substitute teaching in the Clarksville and Clopton schools through the years, she continued writing as correspondent for the Louisiana Press Journal, The Bowling Green Times, and the Hannibal Press Register from the 1930's into the 1990's.


She was a member of the Clarksville American Legion, Pike County Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pike County Chapter and State Vice-President, Clarksville Women's Chamber of Commerce, Charter Member of Clarksville PTA, Board of Directors William Woods College, Clarksville Garden Club, President and Missouri State accredited Flower Show Judge, State President of Women's Democratic Club, Clarksville Citizen of the Year, Representative for Polio Drive under Eleanor Roosevelt, Women's Field Army of the American Cancer Society, 75 year member of the Clarksville Christian Church, local representative of the Red Cross during WWII, Chairman of Missouri Betterment Program under Bess Truman, State President of Christian Women's Fellowship, Fortnightly Club officer, Sorosis Club, and State President of Missouri Federated Clubs.


She passed away in 1996 at age 98 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Missouri.
