"Harold J. Armstrong, 70, passed away at the Hospice Care Center on Aug. 14, 1997, after a long, courageous battle with cancer and a stroke, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 26, 1926, in East Liberty, Ohio, the son of Harold M. and Martha, and resided in the area. He served in the U.S. Navy, was employed by Goodyear Aerospace for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was an 18-year veteran of the Green Fire Department, obtaining the rank of assistant chief.
After retirement, he enjoyed his employment at the Rolling Green Golf Course in Canal Fulton, and was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mildred E. (nee Glendon); daughters... son... grandchildren... great-grandchildren... brothers, Lloyd (Barbara) and Larry (Joyce); sisters, Eleanor Elsen, and Helen (Art) Deuring; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Schermesser Funeral Home, Suburban South Chapel, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (Route 619), Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, Rev. Bruce L. Bequette officiating. Interment at Greensburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Center, City of Green Fire Department, or Greensburg United Methodist Church."
