Adolph Bastron

Adolph Bastron, 93, of Scottsbluff, passed away on April 9, 2013. Graveside services will be held April 20, at the Bayard Cemetery in Bayard. A memorial service will follow at Plymouth Congregational Church. Adolph was born March 17, 1920, in Alliance, to Conrad and Anna Margaret (Fahrenbruch) Bastron. He moved with his family to Bayard where his father farmed until 1926, and that is when his father opened up a grocery store in Bayard which became known as the Boston Store and remained a family business for over 50 years.
Adolph graduated from Bayard High School in 1938. From there he attended Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1941. He was called to active duty in late 1942 and went through boot camp at Parris Island, S.C. From there Adolph attended Marine Officer Training at Quantico, Va. and was commissioned a second lieutenant in May of 1943. As a second lieutenant he helped form the 2nd Ammunition Company. In 1944, Adolph was shipped to the South Pacific where he was attached to the Third Marine Division. On July 21, 1944, he participated in the liberation of Guam. Adolph was discharged from active duty in 1946 and remained in the Marine Corps Reserve where he was promoted to Captain in 1946 and received his final discharge in 1958.
Adolph and Helen Irene Schaffer where united in marriage Nov. 15, 1950. During this marriage of over 62 years, three children were born, Paulette, Fredrick and Pamela. Adolph and Helen moved to Scottsbluff in 1982. After remaining in the grocery business Adolph retired at the age of 84.
Adolph is survived by his wife Helen; children, Paulette (Gary) Little of Bayard, Pam (Terry) Carrier of Scottsbluff, and Fredrick (Patricia) Bastron of Scottsbluff; sisters, Hilda Morris of Mesa, Ariz., and Freda Crouch of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) Little, Brandon (Kristi) Little, Becky (Jared) Clauss, Troy (Patty) Little, Chris (Stephanie) Little, Taylor (Ashley) Carrier, Tonya (Joe) Gargotta, Kayla (Jon) Kuskie, Candace (DJ) Garcia, Lysa (Rudy) Jenkins, and Shaun Flaherty; and 17 great-grandchildren. Adolph was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Victor Bastron, Jacob "Shorty" Bastron, Robert Bastron, Walter "Dutch" Bastron, Caroline Bastron Huck, and Bertha Bastron Niedeffer.
