Gerard A. Fulham of Oyster Harbors, Osterville, retired chairman of the Pneumo Corp., died of complications from diabetes Sunday in Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 70.

In 1969, Mr. Fulham was elected chairman and chief executive officer of the Pneumo Corp., a diversified New York Stock Exchange company, with holdings in the aerospace and defense industries. The corporation is also a major distributor of food and drugs in the Northeast. He retired in 1985 when Pneumo Corp. was acquired by I.C. Industries.

Born in Winthrop, he graduated from Roxbury Latin School and in 1942, he graduated from Harvard University.

During World War II, he served in the Navy.

Mr. Fulham was associated with the brokerage firm of Eastbrook & Co. before joining his family's business, Fulham Bros.

In 1959, he became the chief financial officer of the Cleveland Pneumatic Tool Co. in Cleveland before moving to the Pneumo Corp. 10 years later.

Mr. Fulham was the owner of the Kennedy Butter & Egg stores, Friends Baked Beans and LaTouraine Bickford Corp.

He was the former director of the Wallace Murray Corp., the Aeronca Corp., Regis College and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Society.

Mr. Fulham was a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Corp., the Cape Cod Academy, the Oyster Harbors Club, the Clover Club of Boston, and the Harvard Club of Cape Cod. He was also a Knight of Malta.

He was an anonymous benefactor to many secular organizations and a scholarship was established in 1985 at the Roxbury Latin School in Mr. Fulham's honor.


A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Osterville. Burial will be in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
