Daniel was the fourth of five sons born to Cornelius Regan and Kate Regan (nee Brien) of Cooradarrigan, Schull, County Cork, Ireland. His brothers were; John, Cornelius, Charles and Patrick.
Served in the RN Police, Singapore Naval Base 1937-38, then became an engineer Malayan Tin Dredging, Batu Gajah then Petaling Tin. He briefly served with the FMSVF. He went missing with Captain Roderick Gordon, Captain Herbert Wright and 3 others near the Thai-Malayan border on 10th December 1941. There are eye witness accounts of 3 Europeans being executed by Japanese forces on Singora Beach (now Songkhla), Thailand.
