Hazel Arlene Erickson, 97, of Ottawa died April 9, 2013, in Pleasant View Lutheran Home, Ottawa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fox River Lutheran Church, rural Sheridan, with the Rev. Steve Papillion officiating. Interment will take place at Norway Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday in Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home, Newark, and starting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church.
She was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Seneca to Harvey and Sarah (Peterson) Varness.
She was member of Fox River Lutheran Church in Norway, the Women's Missionary Fellowship of the church and the Sons of Norway. She loved her family, gardening, flowers, baking and especially her church.
Survivors include two daughters Phyllis (Allen) Potter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Alverta Erickson of Peru; five granddaughters, Julie (Tom) Cooper of California, Kristina (Mike) Roberts of Guam, Sheryl Potter of Nevada, Karen (Matt) Cox of Indiana and Denise (Pat) Joyce of Illinois; and one brother, Hiram (Millie) Varness of Kankakee.
She was preceded in death by her husband Abel M Erickson; two sisters, Pearl Tesdall and Dorothy Varness; and one brother, Lowell Varness.
Memorials may be directed to Fox River Lutheran Church or Pleasant View Lutheran Home.
Pallbearers will be Harvey Varness, Stanley Varness, Jim Tesdall, Alden Erickson, Randy Jackson and Steve Nieman.
