Mrs. Florence Steele Boyd, 100, of Greensboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Camden Place Health and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 13. 2013, at Dayspring Community Church, with Pastor Phil Collins officiating. Entombment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park's mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Boyd will also lie-in-state at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel all day on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 9:00 until 5:00 pm.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Rockingham County on October 16, 1912 to the late Henry Franklin Steele and Naomi Smith Steele. She was a devoted member of Dayspring Community Church and in past years, loved singing in the choir. Mrs. Boyd enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She enjoyed sewing, loved music, but most of all, she mostly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Pryde T. Boyd and her three brothers, Dewey, Earl, and Joseph Steele.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, James Franklin "Frank" Boyd and his wife Debra "Debbie" Maynard Boyd of Greensboro; grandsons, Wesley Boyd and his wife Ginger of Georgia and Chris Boyd and his wife Brandi of Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Madeline, Isabelle, Olivia-Grace, and Emma; nieces, Pat Edwards, Doris Cranford, Sue Swaim, Carol Dean Parsons; nephews, Joe, Ron, Jack, Gerald, Jim, Sam, Bobby, and Kenneth Steele; special cousin, Mike Jackson and his wife Janice; and a host of extended family members and friends.
